This website has been developed and updated by Winston Hearn. That’s me, I’m the one writing these words. I’m a person of masculinish gender, living in St. Paul, Minnesota, partner to a badass woman and parent to two children.
I have become a bit of a hobby maximalist, and currently spend my not-very-abundant free time bouldering, cycling, knitting, sketching, photographing, reading, and writing. I love notebooks and fountain pens and most things I write begin longhand in a notebook before eventually being transcribed into a digital device.
The older I get, the more I am obsessed with understanding the specific reasons for why we struggle to make the world better. I see issues like climate change, environmental destruction, species loss, increasing authoritarianism, broadening inequality, widespread economic precarity, and many other aspects of our global polycrisis as all intertwined—an ecosystem of destruction. I am obssessively interested in finding how to narrativize the causes of these crises, to talk about their interconnections, and to make it easier to imagine real paths out of them. I want to see the world improve in my lifetime.
To generate capitalist income, I currently work as a Technical Product Manager in the Observability space, which means I help build tools that allow software developers to diagnose issues and keep their software running. If you are a recruiter looking to pitch me on a new gig, you can find me on LinkedIn, where you will also find more of my C.V. and a bunch of shitposts that I made when it was more entertaining to post on that forsaken place.
I hold a degree in nothing, because I dropped out of college. I read all these books and write all these posts because my curiosity burns like an endless fire and sense-making is said fire’s favorite fuel.
My long-term goals are to write books on the topics I write blog posts on, and to have those books published so that other people can read them. If you’re someone who is capable of helping with those goals and interested in doing so, my email is in the footer of this very website.
